Cryptosporidiosis – a gastrointestinal disease of animals and humans caused by the parasite Cryptosporidium parvum. Commonly known as ‘crypto’, cryptosporidiosis is widely disseminated in domestic livestock and people.

How is it transmitted?  Through the consumption of fecal contaminated food or water or through direct person-to-person or animal-to-person, and animal to animal contact.

What are the signs in animals? Signs include;watery diarrhea, dehydration, colic, bloat, and weight loss. Calves are most commonly affected, but lambs, kids and piglets are also affected.

What are the symptoms in humans? The most common symptom of cryptosporidiosis is watery diarrhea. Other symptoms include stomach cramps, dehydration, nausea, loss of appetite, vomiting, fever and weight loss.
