Avian Influenza – (AI) a contagious respiratory disease caused by the influenza virus, that has the potental to infect people who have close contact with infected poultry.


How is the disease transmitted? Birds and humans become infected when they have contact with contaminated saliva, nasal secretions, and feces of infected birds.

What are the signs in poultry?
Mild form - ruffled feathers, decrease egg production.
Severe form – swelling of comb/ wattles, nasal discharge, respiratory disease, diarreha, fever and death.

What are the symptoms in humans?  Symptoms range from eye infections (conjunctivitis) to severe respiratory disease (pneumonia) leading to death.
